This
book is about the Promises of God, which are available because of His
incarnation as Jesus Christ. It is intended to help adult Christians of all
levels of devotion find those things in their life that will bring them to a
closer walk with God and allow them to claim more of His promises in their
life. Believe's approach is unique in
how God's love and what it means to believe in Christ are
demonstrated through each of these promises. Each chapter illuminates one of
the 14 promises using one key scripture and several supporting scriptures. Analysis,
current examples, and personal experiences relate the scriptures to each of the
promises.
Scripture,
when directly quoted, is from one of three different translations. Most of the
quotations are from the New Revised Standard Version; the following letter
codes identify quotations from the other two versions. KJV.................................... The King James Version NIV........................... The New
International Version
Direct
quotes from any standard translation are always italicized. Instances of either
underlining or bold print indicate an emphasis added by the author. Words enclosed
in parentheses within a quotation are descriptive words added by the author. Where
the scriptures are paraphrased, they are not italicized.
Selecting
which of the three translations to use on any particular scripture was based on
which version most clearly presents the message related to the promise being
illuminated. Those scriptures quoted from the KJV usually are ones that Marlin
originally memorized from a King James Bible and do not sound right in any other
translation.
The
readers are encouraged to read the scriptures referenced in the reading lists
from different translations and to read commentaries on those passages in
conjunction with this study. Doing this will enhance your understanding of
these Bible passages and help you to accept God's promises.
Believe illuminates those scriptures
that have spoken to Marlin L Clark about each of these promises and provides
commentary and personal examples on how he has related to God through these promises.
Readers are encouraged to find additional scriptures and formulate their ideas
on how they relate to God through each of these promises.
